Most of that page-loading is in the idle time.

On the other hand, I wrote a piece about the loss of productivity from obsolete computers... the problem there is exactly the opposite - the delay comes at times when the employee is actually being productive... when the computer is idle, so is the employee... but when the employee is productive, the computer becomes the limiting factor.

I don't like the URL shorteners, anyway... but I am happy to click on them as links.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10342190636167995228noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6525425772304841899.post-43239481323672871422010-03-17T13:15:57.711-07:002010-03-17T13:15:57.711-07:00I'm just saying in a world of finite resources...I'm just saying in a world of finite resources, this is probably an area where we can skimp.

People don't seem to choose URL shorteners based on rendering time. They probably don't care that much about a few microseconds. So I think it's misleading for an analysis to conclude that these delays are costing us millions of dollars a year in productivity losses (as economists often argue).Greg Finleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06005875920306936097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6525425772304841899.post-6388594315181252362010-03-17T12:22:12.917-07:002010-03-17T12:22:12.917-07:00I'm surprised by your stance.
